Magazines

Carving resources are abundant but the leader in the industry (in Chris's opinion) is Woodcarving Illustrated! This beautifully illustrated magazine is a favorite of his and arrives  four times per year. In addition, there are often special issues available throughout the year which are great additions to the wood carvers library.  Each issue is packed with great tips, articles, step by step instructions, and much more.  The editors target all levels of carvers and will be a tremendous asset to your carving career.

Organizations

The National Wood Carvers Association is a great organization for wood carvers and wood workers alike.  Whether you are a rookie or a veteran carver, or maybe someone that just loves the craft, the NWCA is the place for you.  Chip Chat is a bi-monthly magazine which contains articles and news of general interest, show reports, patterns, helpful hints and ideas, and much more.

You can also search for local carving clubs or woodworking guilds that are a great source of information.  Clubs will often have days where carvers get together to carve, discuss challenges, offer tips, and also have some great conversation!

Suppliers

The internet is full of suppliers for the woodcarver and you can find just about anything you need for all different levels and types of carving.  Simply search "woodcarving suppliers" and you will get hundreds of results. You may find that you have local stores that also carry woodcarving supplies.  One word of caution, just like everything else, you get what you pay for so be sure to shop carefully and read the reviews!  Cheap knives and tools will lead to a frustrating carving experience and we certainly don't want that to happen.
